The Party of the People, Labour. Once again showing their true colours.
Homeless people of Newport City (Wales) angry at council plans to ban rough sleeping
Option of bedding down in Welsh city centre could soon be lost to dozens as new shopping centre is about to open and councillors want to enforce ban. [Link]
Winter coming on, no where for the homeless to go so the council do this. Only why?
Commercial considerations, simple as that!
A new shopping complex called Friars Walk is opening there and the council is hoping it will “revive the fortunes of the city centre”.
Only what if the rich don’t want to come there because of the rough sleepers?
Simple, ban the homeless, stop them rough sleeping.
OK, where are they to go to then?
Not the fat cat counsellors problem I suppose. Or so some will be thinking.
When such plans were proposed in Oxford and London, they were thrown out.
Yet this is a Labour run city council. Labour, the party of the people.
Yep, I’d pack up in readiness guys and girls, money speaks loudest in Wales.
It’s also one of the worse bits of legislation aimed at those who are definitely unable to fight. The public space protection order [Link] would only apply to those people who have been offered a place to stay but have refused assistance. But breaching the ban is a criminal offence and can lead to prosecution and a £1,000 fine.
£1000 ($1500) fine. Applied to those living on the streets?
Also giving them a criminal record as if they haven’t got enough to contend with?
Some people can’t live in accommodation for all sorts of reasons.
Mental health, alcoholism, drugs, PTSD, the list goes on.
Plus there are some who simply own pets, their companions, dogs mainly.
The local council may offer to house them BUT rarely their dogs.
Only they just don’t get it do they?
Their dog isn’t just an animal, it’s what keeps them functioning, it’s a companion, it’s family.
Tell me, Would you abandon your family for a bed?
Welcome to the UK where money rules and the most vulnerable always get shafted as government SOP.
